Intrigued, Jared asked, “In that case, how does the Haverford family survive in this place?”
“By utilizing the Celestial Stairway. Many members of the Haverford family will enter the Celestial Stairway, which contains an abundance of realm resources. Furthermore, there’s a toll for cultivators who wish to enter the Land of Finale. If one wants to proceed further, they have to first pass through this land, and the Haverford family capitalized on this by charging for access, thereby collecting resources,” said Tennyson.
“The Haverford family sure is crafty…” Jared gave a casual smile.
“Mr. Chance, if you plan on taking a shot at entering the Celestial Stairway, you must be wary of the Haverford family. You’ve killed Maison, and there’s no way they’ll just let that slide,” Tennyson cautioned.
“I understand. If the Haverford family continues to provoke me, I won’t mind eliminating them,” Jared said with a light-hearted chuckle.
Upon hearing that, Tennyson also chuckled. Jared’s backer, Mr. Sanders, alone can take down ten Haverford families, much less one.
“Jared, you should still be careful. Quenric issued that bounty from the Tenth Hall. If the Celestial Stairway really does appear in the Land of Finale, the Haverford family can easily target you with that bounty. When the stakes get raised, there will definitely be some cultivators on their way to the Celestial Stairway who will be tempted. And not everyone knows that you have a powerful backer, so they might try to take you down,” Octavion cautioned Jared, urging him not to be too careless.
“I understand.” Jared nodded. “You two should have a good talk. I won’t interrupt. I need to cultivate, see if I can elevate my level before the appearance of the Celestial Stairway.”
Jared had received a considerable number of item pouches from Tennyson, which were filled with a wealth of resources.
With so many resources, Jared believed advancing to the next minor cultivation level shouldn’t be an issue.
Inside the Haverford residence at the Land of Finale, Quenric stood in the grand hall, receiving a serious scolding from the head of the Haverford family, Colby.
Quenric stood still, his face filled with terror.
“You good-for-nothing! Instead of properly cultivating in the Tenth Hall, why on earth did you call Maison out? How dare you come back after he’s dead!” Colby was seething with anger.
“Old Mr. Haverford, it wasn’t Mr. Quenric’s fault. All of this was caused by that guy named Jared. He targeted Mr. Quenric and even destroyed the Tenth Hall, forcing Mr. Quenric to call for reinforcements.” Rowan cautiously spoke out.
“Shut up! You deserve a smack too. Why did you go out with Maison without letting me know?” Colby glared at Rowan.
Rowan shuddered. “Old Mr. Haverford, Mr. Maison told us not to speak of it. Besides, we felt that none of the cultivators from the Ethereal Realm could harm us, but w-who knew…” Rowan stuttered.
He didn’t know an Ultimate Realm cultivator could have a powerful backer.
“The Celestial Stairway is about to emerge, and various hidden forces are itching to make their move. Yet, you fools still dare to run around aimlessly. Don’t you understand there will always be someone better than you?” Colby questioned.
“Father, we must avenge Maison. I refuse to believe that Jared will spend his entire life within King Bernard’s country.” Quenric was still intent on rallying others, seeking revenge for Maison.
“I want you to stay put. The Celestial Stairway is about to appear. You’re not allowed to run around aimlessly.” Colby then turned to Rowan. “Increase our manpower at the border. I’m sure many cultivators will arrive early in the Land of Finale during that period. Remember to charge them a bit more when the time comes. Of course, remember to size them up first. If they’re too powerful, concessions can be made to avoid conflicts.”
“I understand. I’ll go arrange it now.” Rowan nodded in agreement.
Quenric gritted his teeth and said, “Father, I won’t find peace until I’ve avenged Maison.”
“You’ve already issued a bounty for Jared, haven’t you? Since no one dared to make a move for a hundred thousand celestial crystals, raise it to two hundred thousand. Remember, money makes the world go round. The Celestial Stairway is about to appear, and we’re about to score big again.” Colby didn’t mind raising the bounty to two hundred thousand celestial crystals for the apprehension of Jared.
